Active Directory Object attributes

All AD objects have attributes that take unique or multiple values , these values describe the object characteristics. For example a user object in Active directory will have attributes such as his first name, second name, Manager name etc.

The attributes of an object can be viewed and edited in the Attribute editor tab of the object’s properties dialogue box.

Each attribute has an LDAP name, for example the first name is stored in an attribute called givenName, second Name as surname, and so on. These LDAP names are used when a user tries to access an AD object using the LDAP protocol. They help in locating, retrieving and providing access to objects. The LDAP attribute names and values can be viewed in the attribute editor tab of user properties dialogue box.
